IBM Storwize SWMA, Extended Support & Legacy Support – What Are Your Options?
10 August 2026 - 2 Minute Read
One of the most common questions we receive is:
"Our IBM Storwize software is approaching End of Support. What do we do next?"
Many organisations assume they have no choice but to replace their storage. In reality, the answer depends on the software version you're running.

If your environment is running a currently supported version of IBM Storage Virtualize or IBM Spectrum Virtualize, we can provide:
- Genuine IBM Software Maintenance (SWMA)
- IBM Extended Support where IBM offers it
- Assistance reinstating IBM SWMA if your maintenance has lapsed
However, many organisations continue to run older releases that IBM no longer supports. These systems often remain reliable and business-critical but have reached the end of IBM's software lifecycle.
Where IBM support is no longer available, we can provide specialist support for legacy IBM Storwize environments, helping organisations safely extend the operational life of their storage while planning future upgrades or migrations.
We support the full IBM Storwize family, including:
• IBM Storwize V3500
• IBM Storwize V3700
• IBM Storwize V5000, V5010, V5020, V5030, V5000E & V5100
• IBM Storwize V7000 & V7000 Unified
• IBM SAN Volume Controller (SVC)
• IBM Spectrum Virtualize
• IBM Storage Virtualize
Not sure whether your Storwize software is still supported by IBM?
Simply send us your:
- Storwize model
- Machine type and serial number
- Current software version
We'll confirm:
- Whether IBM still supports your software version
- Whether IBM SWMA or IBM Extended Support is available
- Whether your software can be upgraded to a supported release
- Whether legacy Storwize support is the most appropriate option
Whether your storage is fully supported by IBM or running a legacy software version, we'll help you understand your options and recommend the most practical and cost-effective route forward.
