Still Running Sun or Oracle Solaris? You’re Not Alone.

Across the UK, many organisations are still running Sun Microsystems and Oracle SPARC servers, some well over 15 or even 20 years old - because they remain rock-solid and business-critical.

Platforms such as Enterprise 4500/6500, E10K / E15K / E25K, Sun Fire V-Series, and later SPARC T-Series, M-Series, and T7/T8 systems continue to power core applications on Oracle Solaris.

The problem?
OEM extended support is expensive, and for much of this legacy hardware there are no new firmware or microcode fixes. In many cases, customers are paying more for “support” without materially reducing risk.

A Practical Alternative: Third-Party Solaris Maintenance

At Baby Blue IT & Consulting, we provide third-party maintenance for Oracle and Sun Solaris servers, alongside legacy Solaris OS support and on-demand Solaris expertise.

This gives customers:

  • Meaningful cost reduction versus OEM extended support
  • Continued break/fix cover for proven, stable platforms
  • Access to experienced Solaris engineers when needed
  • Freedom to plan refresh or migration on their timeline

For many Solaris estates, this is a far more sensible risk-to-cost balance.

Legacy Doesn’t Mean Obsolete

If your Solaris environment is stable and doing its job, replacing it just because a vendor says “end of life” isn’t always the right answer.

Sometimes the smartest move is simply supporting what already works.
