Hardware Maintenance: The Future is Blue, The Future is Hybrid
20 March 2026 - 3 Minute Read
Think of a hybrid & you’ll most likely think of a hybrid vehicle of some sort, a vehicle that doesn’t try to solve every driving problem with a single technology, but combines two different fuel approaches. The outcome is simple, better efficiency, greater flexibility & a system that outperforms either approach on its’ own. It’s not a compromise; it’s a system where each technology works where it is strongest.
Hybrid is everywhere, simply it means the mixture of two different things resulting in something innovative or advantageous, for instance hybrid plants, hybrid work, hybrid technologies & of course, the ubiquitous hybrid car. All blending strengths from two different approaches creating something more resilient & adaptable than either approach on its own.

For many years, hardware maintenance has been framed as a choice between two camps, Third Party Maintenance or OEM Maintenance. Ask a third-party provider and they will often claim their solution is all a company needs, ask an OEM and they may insist their own services are the only viable option. Each promotes its offering as comprehensive, suggesting it can meet every requirement on its own.
In reality, complex IT environments rarely benefit from such absolute choices. The most resilient and effective support strategies are typically hybrid, combining the strengths of both approaches.
This is where the experience and expertise of Baby Blue come to the fore. We analyse every equipment list we receive and determine the most appropriate support model for each and every device, whether that is Third Party Maintenance or OEM maintenance. Our recommendations are based on multiple factors, informed by years of historical data and real-world support experience.
Here’s where it becomes particularly powerful, with the Baby Blue Hybrid Maintenance Offering, we can place all of a customer’s devices under a single contract. Everything shares the same start date, the same renewal date, and the same invoice while ensuring that every device receives the support model that best suits its individual requirements.
Baby Blue Hybrid Maintenance Offering, bringing together the best of both worlds.

Fun fact: Where did the word Hybrid come from?
It is over two thousand years old & originates from the Latin word hybrida which specifically referred to the offspring of a domestic sow & a wild boar. It came to be used as an insult for anyone who was not pure Roman & was a social insult, someone that didn’t belong fully to one group or another.
By the 18th & 19th centuries the word was reclaimed by scientists studying plant breeding, with a completely neutral scientific sense, specifically the crossing of two different though related species of plants. Like so many words in our language it has evolved from meaning one thing, once an insult to a word that has changed the world we live in.
