Fun fact: Where did the word Hybrid come from?

It is over two thousand years old & originates from the Latin word hybrida which specifically referred to the offspring of a domestic sow & a wild boar. It came to be used as an insult for anyone who was not pure Roman & was a social insult, someone that didn’t belong fully to one group or another.

By the 18th & 19th centuries the word was reclaimed by scientists studying plant breeding, with a completely neutral scientific sense, specifically the crossing of two different though related species of plants.
